/ Trichology Salon /  Tell us about CHOATE HOUSE and what you do …

/ CHOATE HOUSE /  Our brand, CHOATE HOUSE, focuses on documenting stories through photography and video production. It is our mission to create both nostalgic art prints and ‘living’ projects captured on video. We work to create a representation of life from a perspective of energy, love and authenticity.

Where do you look for inspiration?

Most importantly, we like to have a conversation and learn what our subjects are about and what they love. It’s very easy to pull inspiration from clients who are trusting and relaxed, so it’s a definite must to achieve this relationship with them. When we shoot, we want to be over prepared with a vision and direction. It’s our mission for the clients to have a blast and not feel like they are acting or being forced to pose or fake smile. It’s a natural relaxed process that works best to inspire a real connectedness between the subjects themselves and with us. For businesses looking for promotion, we want to know their biggest dreams of where they want to go. We’re finding opportunities to help companies brand themselves and inspire their customers in new ways. Their passion for what they do is contagious. We feed off of each other.

What keeps you motivated creatively?

More than anything, we try to look within and work hard to fight distraction. Late night tends to be a time where we chat over ideas we want to explore next. Music fills our house at all times, and LOUD   Movies, images, nature, our children, creative friends… they all motivate us to pieces.

Do you have any style tips for clients who have an upcoming photography or video session?

We firmly believe people should wear what they absolutely love. Layers and colors are always excellent. A few things we tend to tell our clients to shy away from… matching outfits, all white or black and tone-on-tone (i.e. tan skin, tan shirt, brown hair…you get the idea). Be adventurous, but be comfy. For commercial projects, we have professional stylists to assist.

How do you balance your busy lives … family/personally/creatively? You’re both so energetic and fun; we can’t imagine that you ever get overwhelmed!

Awe. Thank you! No doubt there are days when a glass of wine and hot bath are a must! Staying organized is critical. We work hard to try and not over book ourselves, but it’s sometimes hard to do if there are multiple cool projects all needing to be shot in the same timeframe. Our kids are great to remind us if we’re working too much. We know our time with them is precious and will definitely prioritize down time to love on them like crazy and enjoy each other’s company. Family is everything. Truly. Everything.

What’s in the works for Choate House? Whatever it is, we’re excited! Can you give us a sneak peak at what’s coming in the future?

While we’ll continue to shoot for families and consigned portrait work, we are focusing on building two new portfolios for Commercial and Bridal. We can’t get enough of the rush involved in working with a talented dedicated creative team to transcend someone’s dream. Creating something magical with others is the best feeling. Speaking of creatives, we love our Trichology counterparts. You guys are it for us! Can’t thank you enough for your invaluable partnership!

Styles Straight From The Runway / Fall 2012

Fall is finally here, and Trichology Salon is ‘en garde’ searching for the latest hair styling trends on the runway.  Get inspired!  Try something new!  It just takes a small change to renew your style for the next season ..

fringe / Heavy fringe is back in a bold way for fall.  You might be experimenting with fringe for the first time, or perhaps your current bangs need to be shaped up ..  This season is the perfect time to try something new!  Fringe tailored to your facial shape will add definition to your look and accentuate your eyes.

braids / Braids aren’t just for special events and weddings! Wrapped around chic buns or tucked into bohemian waves, braids are showing up everywhere this fall.  If you’d love to try it, but just can’t wrap your head around how to create it, book an appointment for a braiding session with Trichology Salon.  We’d love to teach you some new tricks!

long layers / Long shiny healthy hair will always been in style! This fall, keep your layers long and soft, and encourage your natural wave or curl to show itself.  If you’ve got it, flaunt it! There’s nothing chic about damaging your hair with too much heat. For those with damaged hair that needs moisture, try the luxurious Moroccanoil shampoos, conditioners, and styling products to get your fall style in shape.

undone texture / Big texture is a big trend; give yourself a chance to play this fall! Amp up your volume and your natural texture; aim for movement and don’t worry too much about the details! If you have straight or fine hair, try adding some waves with a curling iron and then applying lightweight spray wax like UNITE’s Tricky Lite to add hold and shine without weighing down your newly textured locks.

deep side-part / The side-part is going strong! Clean up your style add add a splash of edgy-equestrian; try moving your part further to the side than you usually wear it and keep the line clean by using a comb. This trend will work with any hair length or texture. Not into the slicked-back version? Rather than pulling your hair back into a smooth bun or ponytail (also trendy looks for fall), leave it relaxed and loose for less extreme take on this runway look.

cool tones / Watch for cool-tone blondes and brunettes of all levels to hit the scene. From hair in naturally neutral shades to pastels with hints of pink, lavender, and peach .. we’re so ready for the cool down! If you’re looking forward to diving into fall’s color scheme with rich jewel-tones and luxurious texture, try a less golden shade to match your new wardrobe.

saturated color / Rich, deep, bold color is the perfect style pick-me-up after summer. No matter what your current hair color is, consider taking it up a notch this fall.  Ensure your fresh shade by using color-safe shampoos and conditioners meant for your hair texture and styling needs.  Consider applying a Goldwell Color Glaze between the usual services to maintain your color’s depth and shine.

Perfect Wedding Guide / September Bridal Show

We paired up with Perfect Wedding Guide for a fabulous bridal event on September 9th, hosted at the Oklahoma History Center.  We’d like to thank our stylists Andrea (hair), Andie (hair), and Avery (makeup) as well as Natalie and Travis who met with brides at our Trichology Salon booth.  Credit also goes to the wonderful L.J. Hill and Natasha, who put together beautiful makeup looks for the models!

Inspiration / Braids can be glamorous and there are many ways to take a classic bun to high fashion!  We love to experiment with new trends but to keep it elegant for bridal.  The makeup look was fresh and glowy, perfect for any bride, but with a touch of sultry shading.  Adding light around the eyes and highlighting the cheek bones adds dimension and definition.

The White Party / Behind the Scenes and Runway

We were so pleased with the runway show at The White party last week. Here are a few back-stage peeks of the models; hair and makeup was created by us. Closet Moxie provided the wardrobe for the show and it was just fabulous as well.

The mix of messy-bohemian updos with the layered-color blocked look so represents the summer-to-fall transition we are all in right now. We hope you enjoy the looks, and if you missed The White party we hope you will join in at our next event. Stay tuned!

It’s bridal season again! Trichology Salon was happy to join the Perfect Wedding Guide‘s Bridal Fair at Cole’s Garden.  We had a great time demonstrating wedding hairstyles and makeup.  Remember, we offer all of the services to make your most special day carefree; updos, braiding, makeup, and waxing.  From small to large wedding parties, our stylists can work with your schedule and your vision!  We also offer travel packages for weddings needing hair or makeup on location.
